TK Challenge at Harbor View a Huge Success!

On behalf of Team Kids and our Public Safety Partners, we applaud the students and families of Harbor View for taking action on five critical community issues.

• Hunger
Goal: Fill 5 barrels
Outcome: Filled 5 barrels of food to feed struggling families through the Orange County Rescue Mission. 960 pounds of food was collected, enough to serve nearly 2,000 meals to men, women and children in need!

• Literacy
Goal: 500 books for the Corona Del Mar book Drive to benefit struggling readers
Outcome: 708 Along with other CdM Elementary schools, Pomona School 1st-5th grade students got 3-4 books each; Preschool and Kinder students got 2 each!

• Homelessness
Goal: Collect 1 vanload
Outcome: 1 vanload of clothing and toys for the Southwest Community Center to help other families in need in Santa Ana, CA
Estimated Value: $2,000

• Environment
Goal: Fill the dumpster with recyclables
Outcome: Filled the dumpster one and a half times with recyclables to support Harbor View’s efforts to protect our environment
Estimated Value: $350

• St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Goal: $500. Conduct a school wide carnival and donate 100% of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Friday, April 2, 2010
Outcome: $2,076.75 was raised!!

Harbor View students raised cash and donated goods with a total value of $7,009.75 to benefit other children and families in need!

Even more importantly, students learned the power they have to make a difference.
Harbor View kids are amazing!
