About
Jumpstart and Jumpstart’s Read for the Record
Jumpstart is a national nonprofit organization that engages preschool children in low-income communities in an intensive early education program to help them enter school ready to learn at grade level. Each year, Jumpstart organizes its Read for the Record campaign - a national effort to raise awareness about early childhood education and create the largest shared reading experience in history.
“Focusing everyone’s attention on one book for a single day is a great way to highlight the critical task of preparing young people for a lifetime of reading and learning,” said Jumpstart’s President James Cleveland. “We hope Jumpstart’s Read for the Record will encourage others to consider this problem and help them to recognize the important role Jumpstart plays in the lives of young children everywhere.”
Last year more than 250,000 young children participated and over 100,000 books were donated to children in low-income neighborhoods.
This year, Jumpstart's Read for the Record will take place on October 2, and will feature the beloved children's classic Corduroy. Events will be held nationwide.
About Team Kids and Team Kids’ Involvement with Read for the Record
Team Kids inspires young people to become resilient and responsible citizens with passion for community service through its school based and community-wide programs. While serving, students develop the values and skills that enable them to make positive choices in their own lives, while making a difference in the lives of others.
Jumpstart and Team Kids are partnering to make Jumpstart’s Read for the Record 2008 bigger and better than ever by engaging Orange County children in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record and making early education a national priority!
